Spread over 1050 hectares of loamy, fertile land, Harmutty Tea Estate is one of the oldest plantations in Assam. Founded by Major Gibbs and named after Queen Harmati, wife of Assamese ruler King Arimatta, the estate is presently attributed with producing some of the finest orthodox Assam clonal variety of teas. Currently, 512 hectares of the estate is planted with Camilia Sinensis Assamica tea bushes, 42% of which are clonal. The estate is located in the North Lakimpur district, situated alongside the Dikrong river.
