With an expansive land area of about 400 acres, the Havukal Tea Estate was the brainchild of British pioneer Hugh Fennell, who between 1910 and 1920 extensively planted the Nilgiri hill with Assam Tea Plants and eventually turning it into the picturesque and popular tea plantation of today. Later in 1957, Fennell sold the estate to Mr.Thangevelu, who went about with the extensive replanting the estate with the CR-6017 clone. Today, the estate boasts a manufacturing capacity of 3 million kg per annum with a wide variety of orthodox black teas and speciality teas that are made to match specific customer tastes.
