Story

Nestled on the northern banks of the Brahmaputra near Tezpur, Chardwar Tea Estate takes its name from the evocative phrase “four doors to heaven.” The estate was once owned by Maharaja Pradip Chandra Bhanj Deo of Mayurbhanj, a philosopher, reformer and patron of progress. Surrounded by Assam's fertile plains and nourished by abundant rainfall, Chardwar benefits from a terroir ideally suited to producing teas of depth, character and distinction.

A new chapter began in 2015 when Tea Promoters India undertook the estate's revival, investing in modern manufacturing while preserving the craftsmanship of orthodox tea production. Today, Chardwar combines generations of tea-making expertise with a forward-looking approach to quality and sustainability.

The estate's commitment to organic and biodynamic cultivation is central to its identity. Careful stewardship of the land allows each harvest to express the richness of its origin, yielding teas that are bold, expressive and unmistakably Assamese in character.
