The Garden

Nestled in Darjeeling at 4,500 feet, Risheehat was established by British planters in the mid 19th century, originally called Tsering Bagan after the local Tsering tribe before its renaming to Home of Holy Saints.

Acquired by Jay Shree Tea in 1955, the estate is Organic and Fair Trade certified, its steep, biodiverse slopes facing Kanchenjunga yielding teas of remarkable clarity and depth.

Taste
This summer cup opens with a smooth, indulgent sweetness, where notes of caramel and dark chocolate unfold with a rich, rounded character. Beneath this sweetness lies a deeper earthy layer, lending the cup warmth and structure while allowing its distinctive Chinary character to shine through. As the flavors develop, gentle nutty undertones emerge alongside a subtle freshness reminiscent of tender vegetation, adding lift and complexity to the fuller body of the cup. A delicate musky nuance lingers in the background, carrying through to a brisk, refined finish that remains long after the last sip. Rich yet elegant, rounded yet lively, this expressive summer harvest reveals its layers gradually - balancing sweetness, depth and freshness in a beautifully composed expression of classic Darjeeling character.

Flavorful and Bold

This tea delivers a delicious cup suitable for any time of day. I like to put cram and sugar in it but my husband just uses sugar. Either way, it's delicious.

Slow learn

When I first tasted this, I didn't like it. My sister suggested too strong, so we aded hot water. Still didn't like. Added more. Decided I liked it but it wasn't that great, wouldn't buy more. By the time I got to the bottom of the cup, really liked it. Will definitely buy more. Nothing unusual or exotic about this tea, just very, very tealike.
