Its name, believed to originate from the Nepali word “Tombu” (meaning tent), is a nod to its colonial past, when British forces encamped here during their campaign against Nepal. Today, it stands as one of Darjeeling’s most iconic gardens—rich in legacy and rooted in tradition.

Spread across rolling hills at altitudes ranging from 980 to 1890 meters, Thurbo is flanked by the Mechi and Rangbang rivers, and enjoys breathtaking views of the Kanchenjunga range. Can I cold-steep this tea?

Yes! Cold-steeping brings out its sweet, mellow notes beautifully. Use 3-4 tsp of tea per 240 ml of cold water. Let it steep in the fridge for 3–4 hours. Strain and enjoy chilled.
