Founded in 1899 by British planter Henry Montgomery Lennox, Goomtee Tea Estate is a timeless symbol of history and craftsmanship in the Darjeeling hills. Over the decades, it has flourished under the stewardship of notable figures, including G.W. O’Brien and the esteemed Rana of Nepal after World War II, preserving its legacy of excellence through every transition.

Nestled in the heart of the Kurseong subdivision, known fondly as the "Land of White Orchids," Goomtee spans 225 hectares (560 acres) of pristine terrain, rising from 3,000 to 5,500 feet above sea level. The estate’s cool mountain climate, fertile soil, and vintage Chinary bushes provide ideal conditions for producing orthodox Darjeeling teas of exceptional quality, marked by their distinctive character and timeless appeal.

What do you mean by Autumn Flush?

Autumn Flush' represents one of the four main & final tea harvesting seasons. This flush is harvested during mid-October till end-November.

The flush starts once the monsoon has withdrawn from the misty hills of Darjeeling with the temperatures beginning to drop.

What are the basic characteristics of Autumn teas?

Generally, Autumnal teas are usually well-balanced, having no sharpness or astringency that is typical of first and second flush teas. It’s less floral and delicate than the Spring flush.

It’s more fruity with slightly sweet, nutty undertones and mellowness, making it the most readily palatable of all Darjeeling teas.

What do you mean by Chinary Black tea?

By Chinary, we are referring to the tea plant - Camellia sinensis var. sinensis, from where the tea has been crafted.

I have purchased the Darjeeling Goomtee classic autumn black tea recently,as I have not tested it earlier, the taste of this autumn black tea is satisfactory but the expected flavour is missing.

Very pleasant, for a black tea

I received this tea as a free sample with my order. The standard burnt/oxodized flavor of a black tea is significantly muted in this one, which I appreciate (I generally prefer oolong and green teas). The aftertaste starts out slightly sweet, like an oolong or green tea, but has a light lasting bitterness by the end of the cup.

A Fine Autumn Offering

I ordered this tea in an order placed on 7 January, 2016 and sampled it several after I received it some five days later. This tea is very fresh (obviously, as it was plucked on 30 November, 2015) and is quite full bodied. It brews up to a rich color and has a good amount of solid, woody and some fruity/floral flavors which I really enjoy. I am glad that I ordered 100g of this tea as it will be a nice one to dip into throughout the coming few winter months.
