The Garden

Woven into the misty slopes of Darjeeling, Margaret's Hope carries a legacy both storied and personal, renamed in 1927 by Mr Cruikshank in memory of his daughter, Margaret.

Set across elevations of 3,500 to 6,000 feet in the Kurseong Valley, its early spring harvests are prized for being vivid, expressive and unmistakably Himalayan in character.

Taste
A lively and elegantly layered spring cup, this tea opens with bright notes of wood apple and ripe mango woven together with fresh lemony briskness. The infusion carries a vibrant vegetal freshness that brings clarity and lift to the palate, evoking the character of an early Himalayan harvest.

As the cup develops, subtle earthy undertones emerge beneath the fruit-forward brightness, adding depth and structure without overpowering the tea’s delicate spring profile. Gentle nutty accents appear gradually through the mid-palate, lending warmth and softness to the liquor while balancing its citrusy energy.

The mouthfeel remains smooth, crisp, and refreshing throughout, with soft honeyed impressions and fresh green nuances enhancing the tea’s refined character. The finish is clean and lingering, leaving behind delicate traces of lemon zest, tender greens, and mellow nuttiness. A beautifully expressive Chinary black that captures the freshness, vibrancy, and timeless elegance of Darjeeling’s first flush season.

Another Good Spring Chinary

This was the 4th Spring Chinary Black tasted from my sampler pack (see Castleton, Okayti, & Goomtee). With my limited tasting experience, I can’t claim to taste major differences but all have been good. Still getting used to such light golden hues from black teas. If anything, my first brew of Margaret’s Hope had very slightly more astringency but not high. Looking forward to a few more cups.

Christmas Cheer with Margaret's Hope

My FAVOURITE tea purchased during the Black Friday sales. I could not help myself and bought two kilos!! It's great that the tea is packed in 100g vacuum sealed packs - always fresh and now I have many stocking fillers ready for Christmas! Being summer here in Melbourne, I love steeping the tea in cold water in a big pot, leaving it overnight in the fridge and delicious refreshing cold tea the next day! Full of all those special Margaret's Hope flavours

Mellow and calming

It has a beautiful sweet fragrance when steeped and had the distinct flavour of black tea. But I think due to the fact that this is the first flush, it is not at all bitter and has a subtle but fulfilling taste. I would say it is for those people who want try the basic black tea flavour without its harsh body.

I want to swim in this tea

This Spring Chinary Black tea is one of the best black teas I've ever tasted! If 'late afternoon sunshine with a side of clean rain' had a taste, this might come close: fresh, complex, with a natural sweetness. I served our first pot of it with a little Manuka honey for extra anti-inflammatory help. But this tea can stand alone. Now I see the difference fresh tea makes, sourced by people with a passion for tea!

Essential

I start every day with two cups of Margaret's Hope Darjeeling. I even take my tea and teapot with me when I'm away from home as I can't drink the stuff provided in hotels worldwide. It is fresh and invigorating, an essential to my life!

Gift

This was a gift for my son-in-law who is just beginning his journey into the world of tea. I gave him several sample packs and he was thrilled! I also email him links to Teabox that shows how to brew and many facts about tea.

2022 is a must buy. Try it and knock yourself out.

I bought just a 100 grams of this Margret’s Hope Spring Chinary Black last year and it was quite alright. This year I decided to buy 1kg of this blend without trying it out first. My god, am I glad I got this blend this year. The 2022 Margret’s Hope Chinary Black is so nice and rich with flavors that is much better than the last year. Each year the blend is different due to climate, weather etc. but this year is without exception. Try it out with 100g and you will land in heaven. Believe me, is that great.

Exceptional black tea, bursting with flavors and beautiful lingering aftertaste

Margaret's Hope is one of my favorite gardens for white / black teas (Badamtam being the other), so quite naturally I was keen to try their black teas. I sampled this tea and wow, it is a FLAVOR BOMB. I infused it for a full 5 minutes at 80 degree celcius. The flavors were quite floral and very subtle. An excellent tea. I would recommend adding a hint of milk + sugar to bring out the true flavor.
