Tasting Notes

From our Chief Tea Taster

Aroma
Eminently floral, redolent of geranium, complemented by hints of green apple peel
Appearance
Champagne
Taste
Luminous and light-bodied, the taste of this tea is defined by an exceptional, silken smoothness and a deep floral heart.

The experience begins with an ethereal bloom of white lily and geranium, offering a sophisticated sweetness that evolves with every sip. This floral clarity is soon layered with the tangy, resinous vibrance of raw green mango and the succulent sweetness of ripe muskmelon, lending a bright, tropical energy to the mid-palate.

The finish is remarkably clean, anchored by a crisp, mineral-rich note of spring sap that lingers with refreshing persistence. Upon the second infusion, the zesty green mango intensifies - perfect for a sophisticated cold-brew or flash-chilled tea. By the third steep, the profile mellows into the comforting, golden sweetness of stewed orchard apples, rounded out by a delicate, sun-drenched vegetal finish.

Amazingly floral

An amazingly floral and smooth tea. The leaves are beautifully intact. I actually found some success brewing this gongfu style.

Delicious

This tea is so different from what was expected...black tea that isn't... smooth, ever so slightly sweet yet palatable. I am so glad to try it, realizing it is a rarity. I feel honored to have the opportunity to taste this delight! Worth the wait. Thank you for 'enticing' me to try it, Diwaker!

All round perfect tender-bold

This tea gives, and gives. As you can steep it twice and still enjoy the very fresh taste, with almost a natural honey like smell. Tad bitter at the end, only for me, as I steep a bit longer than 5 mins, which makes it better. One of the best I have tasted.

This one is a...

This one is a great tea that's low to moderate in caffeine but high in flavour. One of my favourite late night teas.

Among the finest Darjeeling teas

Overall the tea is very good. I tried the first flush. The colour is very light and the taste is almost perfect. Loved it.

Spicy, flowery and aromatic

You cannot say this tea is not aromatic! It is quite unique, giving you coriander and flowers in your mouth. Again, Upper Namring is showing very specific teas that you cannot find in other gardens!

Easy on the mind and body

I'd suggest this to be one of those occasions to relaxing with a tv show or even reading a book outside with cause it has that very classic taste to it. Not very sweet but it was fresh and amazing when outside enjoying it.
Suggest not to over steep it, the flavor can get very bold and might need to be put in a bigger cup. All in all a great tea worth trying.

LOVE Upper Namring Exotic Spring Blac Black

Just loved everything about this tea - leaves looked great and fresh - upon steeping I loved the aroma and the taste was smooth and nice - comforting. It was the first tea I opened and went back to it the next few days - LOVE IT!!!

Great taste

The aroma of this lovely tea is malty with a hint of cashews. The flavor is bright and crisp, strong but never bitter. This is definitely a favorite!

Beautiful tea to start the day

While the tea didn't wow me the first time I drank it, over time it snuck up on me. I found myself turning to brew this in the morning when I needed a reminder that good things (i.e. tea) come with a new day. Sadly I'm down to my last cup.
The flavour was light, fresh, slightly grassy, and not typical of a black tea at all. It's sweet without beeing overwhelming. The tea serves well as a pick-me-up.
The tea was a little weak if not brewed carefully. Make sure to give this tea the attention it deserves when you're brewing it!

Pure, and beautifully scented

**April 3, 2016** For me this tea was delicate but flavorful--nutty and floral. It had a smooth, medium-to-full body and virtually no bitterness or astringency. It also smelled amazing when brewed! It's also a much lighter taste and color than you're probably used to seeing in a black tea.
I used: 2.5 grams tea in 6 oz water at 194 degrees F, steeped for 5 minutes

A delicious, light black

This is a light tea that shares more in common with a darjeeling than a strong black. It is wonderful on it's own, and takes well to multiple steepings.

Smooth afternoon tea

I really enjoyed the flavor notes in this blend, subtle and a bit different from my typical subscription box offerings.

A strong tea with a grassy/earthy aroma.

This tea is exactly what you would expect out of a grassy and earthy tea, which is pretty much the beauty of it. I wouldn't necessarily call it simple, but it's comforting if steeped properly and a wake-up call when over-steeped.

Upper Namring Special Spring Black

I really enjoy anything citrus, so to have a tea with citrus inside is amazing! I love the aroma of honey, and the mango is adds a special finish to the palate. I have yet to try adding anything to this tea, but it tastes great plain!

My favorite

This tea was great! It has a really nice smell and color. By far my favorite so far. I wish it had more caffine for morning drinks. I prefered drinking this tea in the afternoon after lunch/

I love this delicate tea

Despite the pale golden liquor, this tea has a very refreshing taste, with light hints of citrus.
I'm drinking this during a New England winter, but it instantly makes me think of a spring garden.

Very nice

I love sweet notes and I love citrus, so of course I love this tea. It has a decent aroma and goes down very smooth. This would be a good breakfast drink, a nice way to ease into another busy day.

Good all around

Not an exceptional tea, but a good tea. Has a great aroma, and a flavor that can be a bit week, but find a great balance as a definitive flavored back tea that is not too flavored.

Nice aftertaste

This is probably the mildest tea that I have received so far. The color and taste are rather light. In fact, I'd probably increase the amount of leaves when I have it next. The interesting part is the sweet aftertaste.

Very pleasant! I could drink many cups of this tea.

Nice, light tea with a great, minimal aftertaste. It's not too fruity, but there definitely is a sweeter hint. I could drink this tea all day long!

Delicate and delicious.

A fresh discovery for me that I like a weak black tea with no milk. I found it pale, delicate, fragrant and perfect for low caffeine occasion which are many in my world

Smooth, refreshing and clean tasting.

A wonderful clean and refreshing tea. I want to say 'crisp' but that suggests some astringency or sharpness, neither of which are present. Perhaps 'pure' would be a better word?! It is very, very smooth with a natural, subtle sweetness. I have to mention the leaves themselves... They are thin and tightly rolled, opening into perfectly formed leaves. The quality of picking and processing is obvious. If you like Darjeeling, this is a VERY good example. Takes a second steep very well with a similar profile.
